#32 - Knotted Physio - Why Consistency Beats Intensity

Hello Everyone and welcome back! As always, a BIG thank you to everyone who takes the time to read the Knotted Physio Blog. I really do appreciate it!

Today I wanted to talk about something I see all the time when people are trying to get healthier.

Intensity.

We get motivated and decide, "That's it! I'm going to get in shape!"

So we go all out.

We exercise every day, push ourselves as hard as possible and try to make up for all the time we haven't been exercising.

And then... we're sore.

Really sore.

Maybe something starts hurting, we're exhausted, or life gets busy and suddenly that great exercise program has disappeared.

Sound familiar?

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make is believing that more is always better.

It isn't.

Your body needs time to adapt. If you haven't exercised in months, jumping into a hard workout every day probably isn't the best way to get started.

Instead, start with something you can actually maintain.

Go for a walk a few times a week. Do some basic strengthening exercises. Spend a little more time outside. Then gradually build from there.

Twenty minutes of exercise that you do consistently is much more valuable than an hour-long workout that you only do once every couple of weeks.

I've seen this with patients over and over again. The people who make lasting changes aren't always the ones who work the hardest.

They're the ones who keep showing up.

And this applies to more than exercise.

If you want to become stronger, you have to consistently challenge your muscles.

If you want better endurance, you have to consistently move.

If you want to improve your balance, you have to consistently work on it.

You don't have to be perfect.

You just have to keep going.

Of course, there will be days when you don't feel like exercising. There will be vacations, busy weeks, bad weather and those days when the couch looks much more appealing!

That's okay.

Missing one workout isn't going to ruin your progress. The important thing is getting back to it.

So don't worry about having the hardest workout or doing the most.

Find something you enjoy and something that fits into your life.

Because the best exercise program isn't necessarily the one that pushes you the hardest.

It's the one you can keep doing.

Well guys, I hope this gives you a little different perspective on exercise and reminds you that you don't have to go all out to make progress.

Start where you are, be consistent, and let your body build from there.

As always, thanks for reading and Go enjoy the outdoors!
